Kimora Krazy!

Posted in As Seen on TV, Celebrity Designers, Designer Accessories, Designer Watches, Designer Womenswear, Who We Are at 1:47 am by Deb Savvy

Call me crazy if you must, but I’ve got to come out of the closet. I ADORE Kimora Lee Simmons. From when she first brought Hello Kitty into the world of diamonds, I was smitten. And baby phat just gets better and better and better.

Contrary to how these things usually work, I actually found myself becoming a bigger and bigger fan each time I caught a few minutes of her reality show. She’s a powerhouse in business, truly a creative visionary and, above all, she seems like a terrific mom. What can I say? I’m Kimora Krazy!

One For Now, One For Later

Posted in All Time Favorites, Every Day Wardrobe, Original Designs, Skirts, Style Watch, Who We Are, Womenswear at 4:05 am by Deb Savvy

My wardrobe’s been getting me down lately, so I took a surf over to . There’s nothing like a few of their original designs to update the look of every thing else in my closet. And as I always I when I shop there, I am a very happy camper. Today’s selections include this Vesta Skirt in Velvet Brocade which I’ll start wearing the minute it arrives.

And this fabulous number that I’ll have to wait a few weeks to start wearing.  And I have a feeling I’ll be counting the days!

I’m also happy to report that it seems like they’ve recently reduced their prices. My skirts were a STEAL at $128 for the pair. I’ll be counting the days until they arrive. If you’ve never tried their skirts before, I urge to to give them a test run. You would never expect such quality and exquisite workmanship, particularly for these prices. And because they are all totally original designs, you won’t see yourself coming and going on every corner. Love that. A wardrobe refreshing fashion statement for a song.

It’s Here!!!

Posted in Breaking News, Computers, Home Office, Tech Stuff, Who We Are at 1:53 am by Deb Savvy

And I’m such a happy, happy girl. I am writing this on my brand spanking new 24 inch iMAC. WOW! Who knew that the world of computers could be this fast, easy and luxuriously comfortable? It’s my first MAC and I was a teeny bit nervous since it’s a whole different world of everything, but it’s been unbelievably easy.

Apple Store

I was also a bit worried that I wouldn’t be able to do much of my real work – but I was wrong about that too. This week, Apple announced the release of Microsoft Office 2008 for MAC. Available for pre-order at Apple Store – I’m going to be making some BIG spreadsheets on my massive 24 inch screen!

The Genetics of Fandom

Posted in Fan Shop, Gifts, Memorabilia, Sports, Stocking Stuffers, Who We Are at 3:39 am by Deb Savvy

I can’t believe I am sitting down at my computer to write something about sports – but here I am!  For those of you who are interested in the subject, I’m glad to have hit on something that brings you to my site.  For those of you who are not, never fear, I can’t imagine I’ll be waxing poetic about the Superbowl when the time comes.   The truth is I don’t really care about sports very much.  If I attend a pro game of any kind, I’m generally more excited about the hot dogs than anything else.  But when pushed for an answer, I will identify myself as a White Sox fan.

Sports Memorabilia

And I guess that I really am.  I was raised by a die hard second generation Sox fan who had no doubt that his children would grow up to be die hard third generation Sox fans.  “No daughter of mine will ever set foot in Wrigley Field” was something I heard regularly from my father when I was growing up.  The burglar alarm code in our childhood home was “1959″.   Why?  Need you ask?  The year the Sox won the pennant!  In my adult life I have generally remained ignorant of the events of baseball season - with the single possible exception of the game schedule’s impact on traffic.  Until 2005, that is.  No, I am not a fair weather, jump on the bandwagon poser fan.  But I found myself inexplicably drawn to the Sox that summer.  By July, I was hooked.  By August, I was obsessed.  I knew all the players’ numbers and posiitions.  I watched every inning of every post season game. I screamed and yelled.  I jumped up and down.  Halfway through the playoffs, I lost my voice.  I rearranged all my televisions for the World Series.  I invited people over for nearly every game and served a full buffet of stadium foods every night.  I cried when they won.  World Series Champions.  I cried a lot.  I was a true Sox fan.

DicksSportingGoods.com

As all this was happening,  I kept making comments to myself like:  This is so weird.  Why are you so into this?  You hate sports on television.  And then – why are you crying? The morning after it was all over I understood why.  I found myself compelled to bring a pennant to the cemetery for my Dad.  And I wasn’t alone.  There were loads of other people there doing the same thing.  As I’m sure there are each fall, in the home town of the new World Champions.

Team Merchandise at SportsFanfare.com

I learned to love the Game that year.  I loved the Game for my Dad.  Because he didn’t get to see it.  I loved it the way he would have.  I loved it like it was in my blood.  Because it is.  Since then I find myself attracted to Sox memorabilia and logowear.  I used to think that kind of stuff was silly.  Now I get it.  It’s part of who I am.  It’s where I come from.  If you know someone who was raised in a family of fans and are stumped for a gift, consider the gift of childhood fandom. Coffee mugs and pens make great stocking stuffers and have the bonus of practicality. Many teams even offer licensed items featuring past logos, just like way back when… Tickets are a great choice, especially if you plan on going to the game, too. And especially if the team in question is doing well.  And even if the’re not.  Win or lose, what ever you choose, the gift of retro-fandom is sure to strike a sweet, nostalgic chord with the recipient.

I am in absolutely in love with my new Tsubo shoes.  Like most people who work at home, I’m normally in sweatpants and bare feet most of the day.  Not anymore.  I’ve been getting every morning and picking out an outfit AROUND these shoes.  I have two pair – one in brown and one in black. And I just might need the red ones, too.

Shoe Boots! Shoe Boots! Shoe Boots!

Posted in Boots, Who We Are at 8:05 pm by Deb Savvy

True confession: I LOVE SHOE BOOTS. I love them with slacks and jeans. I love them with long skirts. I love them with short skirts. I love them with pointed toes. I love them with a square or round toe. I love them with heels. I love them flat. I really love shoe boots. I love them so much that I’ve included them in my wardrobe ever since I got my first pair which has to have been at least 25 years ago. (NO, I’m not wearing the same ones. Get real!) And from what I’m seeing on the runways and the street – this is THE year of the shoe boot. Shoe boots are everywhere!

Wondering why I’m so passionate about shoe boots? I like short boots with pants because it’s more comfortable than a full length boot. I like shoe boots with a long skirt because I like a little bit of my cool tights to show. And with a short skirt – I think the shorter boot is a nice change of pace, particularly with a lower heel. Most women wear a short skirt with full length black boots and black tights or patterned / textured hose. For me, the shorter boot is a way to make my look a little bit different. I also think it makes for a more effortless look.

My Definition of Pure Decadence

A 90 degree day that turns into a sweltering nights.  Central air cranking and the house is at full meat locker status.  And I curl up in bed under not one but TWO down comforters.  That’s what I call a great night’s sleep!

I’ve Changed My Tee Tune

Posted in Retro Shopping, T-Shirts, Who We Are at 5:44 am by Deb Savvy

Stylin Online - T-Shirts

It’s funny how we change as we get older.  What’s even funnier is that the more we change, the more we stay the same.  It’s been YEARS since I wore a graphic t-shirt of any kind.  Probably since high school.  Maybe college.  Now graphic tees are all I’m shopping for.  The more they’re like the ones I wore 25 years ago the more I like them.  I think what started it was seeing this totally well dressed woman in a superman tee a couple of weeks ago.  And then a friend invited me to the Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon concert a few days later.  Suddenly I was thinking about my long lost Pink Floyd shirt.  And that fabulous YesSongs tee.

And get this.  I’m not planning on wearing them to the gym.  I’m thinking that somthing like a classic Smiley Face or Dr. Pepper tee will be perfect with my new ‘not quite white’ slim fitting summer pant suit – just the thing for a cocktail party or funky brunch.   I’ve also planned my own personal fashion homage to The Wall for the Roger Waters concert.  Classic Floyd t-shirt, pleated Burberry short skirt, distressed denim jacket and peep toe platform pumps!  I’m so excited I can hardly wait.  And here I am again – wanting to wear the same things I wore nearly thirty years ago.  How crazy is that?  Of course I would not have had the Burberry skirt….  But you know what I mean.

In Case You were Wondering…

Posted in Computers, Home Office, Tech Stuff, Who We Are at 12:42 am by Deb Savvy

When it comes to computers, I’m powered by Dell.  I have been for years.  I’m about to buy another machine. It’s my fourth purchase, maybe my fifth.

Dell Home Systems

I maintain multiple computers in my office, one of which is a Dell laptop I bought in early 1998.  It’s a workhorse!  Better yet, when it inexplicably pooped out several months ago, tech support quickly diagnosed the problem (static electricity), talked me through the fix and got me back online.  All this for FREE despite the fact that the warranty had expired nearly five years ago!  I even received a follow up call two days later from the same support representative, just wanting to make sure that the machine was operating properly.  That’s customer service!  That’s why I’m a customer.
