If you’ve ever shopped a true designer sample sale, then you know how much fun it can be. Like a treasure hunt! You never know what you might discover and the prices are literally too good to be true. On the other hand – sample sales have their downside, too. First of all, unless you are lucky enough to live in Paris or New York, you probably won’t have that many sample sales to chose from. And between the unruly crowds and crazed atmosphere a sample sale can be stressful and annoying. I was at a sample sale in New York last year and some lady smacked me with her huge Hogan tote because I was blocking her access to a rack of Valentino dresses. If you love the thrill of the hunt and want to avoid the crowds, check out the clearance department over at Pink Mascara 
. It’s like shopping one of the best virtual sample sales ever.
On my last visit I found discounts of as much as 75% on shoes, dresses, slacks, jeans, skirts, sweaters, accessories, bathing suits and more. From designers like Michael Kors, Theory, T-Bags, Tart, Citizens of Humanity, Phillip Lim, MINT, Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, Ya-Ya, Twelfth Street, Lotta Stensson, Lily McNeal, Erotokritos, Graham & Spencer, Alex Gaines, Nieves Lavi, Robert Rodriguez and others. Like most sample sales, sizes and quantities are limited in their sale department. Most pieces are available in only a couple of sizes. Unlike the pieces at many true sample sales, there are plenty of options in sizes that are not a 0 or 2. Sure, lots of the things I loved were not available in my size – but lots of them were! I give this sale a hearty thumbs up. Next time you’ve got a few minutes to spare, make yourself a cup of coffee and take a surf. Totally worth a few clicks.

Or is it always shoe time?
I just discovered a tres cool website for shoes. SoleMates at Soles on Sale is totally the opposite of the online shoe megastores. It’s more like shopping a private sample sale or a clearance at a tony SoHo boutique.
Discounts vary but expect to save between 25% and 85% on shoes and boots from top name brands and designers like Frye, Bettye Muller, Lulu Guinness, Marc Jacobs, Taryn Rose, Isabella Fiore, Morenatom, Bruno Magli, Delman, Hollywould, Emilio Pucci, Lilly Pulitzer, Longchamp and others.
Quick hint – The designer list on their main page is totally incomplete and made the pickings look rather slim. It was not until I did a search by size that I discovered more than half of the available designers and styles. Remember this isn’t a superstore – it’s a huge sale, so you have to expect to have to hunt around a little bit. It’s part of the fun, right?
