As are every one of us. Change is in the air as the year draws to a close and we’re all even more pensive than usual as the new year approaches. These Kabbalah Pendants jumped out at me as the perfect talisman for the transition into 2009 and beyond.

Planning a Simcha? http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2008/06/13/planning-a-simcha/ http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2008/06/13/planning-a-simcha/#comments Fri, 13 Jun 2008 03:44:08 +0000 Deb Savvy http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2008/06/13/planning-a-simcha/ It seems like we’re all consumed with planning big simchas these days. 2008 is a big year for the girls in our family. Hazel, Petunia AND Ketchy will all be Bat Mitzvah before the summer is over and we are going party crazy! Between the studying and practicing and guest lists and debating about menus, themes and (most importantly) what’s for dessert we’ve barely got time to shop. Barely.

All that simcha shopping is SO much easier when you shop at Zara Israel Judaica Mart. From personalized kippot and tallitot to Judaica and just about the biggest selection of Israeli t-shirts around. They’ve got it all. It’s as if the best of Ben Yehuda street landed on your desktop. Only better. They’ve got rock bottom prices, no lines and you don’t need to schlep anything home in your baggage. LOVE THAT!

If You Didn’t See It… http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2008/02/18/if-you-didnt-see-it/ http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2008/02/18/if-you-didnt-see-it/#comments Mon, 18 Feb 2008 02:26:56 +0000 Deb Savvy http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2008/02/18/if-you-didnt-see-it/ If you didn’t see it, then you absolutely must. And if you did see it, then, like me, you probably want to see it again.

The Jewish Americans: A Series by David Grubin DVD

And in case you missed it, The Mormons was equally fascinating, exceedingly well done and thoroughly engrossing.

The Mormons DVD

It’s well worth having both in your library. Accompanying books and soundtrack CD’s are also available for many PBS titles, as are many other learning resources.

Shopping that Promotes Peace http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2008/02/17/shopping-that-promotes-peace/ http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2008/02/17/shopping-that-promotes-peace/#comments Sun, 17 Feb 2008 23:27:16 +0000 Deb Savvy http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2008/02/17/shopping-that-promotes-peace/ Last week I did some grocery shopping at a small international fruit market / grocery not too far from my house. I saw some pickles that looked interesting. I took them off the shelf to take a closer look. The front label was in English; the back label was in Arabic. On the English side, the package was clearly marked ‘Made in West Bank’. Just as I was thinking about how cool it was that in such a short time there are actually marketable products coming to America from West Bank and wondering why they don’t talk about that on the news – I noticed it. A Kosher certification. (OU). Now I really want to know why no one is talking about this on the news. I’m not going to pontificate about politics – I’m just going to say that I believe in peace and I think it’s AWESOME that there are products coming out of West Bank onto the American market and that I think it’s even more incredible that some of these products are Kosher foods.

So it got me thinking. What better way to promote peace than to go out your way to purchase products made by people who live in regions of conflict. Especially the artists and craftsmen who are dedicated to promoting peace, diversity and respect for the traditions of all people and cultures through the products they create.
