Like I always say, it pays to shop around. This time it turned out to be more true than ever. One reason I wrote that fragrance gift post yesterday was that I was in the midst of shopping for a few things for myself. I had perfume mania, so to speak.
By the time I finished writing that post (In Praise of Fragrance Gift Sets), I was pretty sure of what I was going to buy and from where. Then I took a surf over to Perfumania.com 
- just to double check. Am I ever glad that I did! Not only did they have the lowest listed price for a couple of things on my list, after I clicked to add each item to my shopping cart a little message popped up on the screen advising me that I could purchase a second one for only $9.99! With an offer like that, who needs a coupon code! I paid under $77 for TWO bottles of one of my favorite scents, with free delivery and no sales tax. The full retail price is $125 a bottle. The best deal I found anywhere else was about $70 each, after a coupon code. WOW! That’s what I call savvy shopping!

Whether shopping for yourself or for a gift for someone else, fragrance gift sets are an a terrific option, especially when it comes to getting more for less. Even when purchased at full retail price, fragrance gift packages represent an excellent value. A gift set generally includes at least one full sized item (body lotion, soap, bath gel) along with a full sized Cologne or Eau de Parfum – and generally sells for the same price as the fragrance by itself. You’re usually saving about 25% to 40% off the retail value of the products. A really terrific gift set might also include a couple other small items like a purse spray or some travel size bath and body products. In general, you’re getting something for free – even if you’ve paid full retail price.
And, of course, savvy online shoppers can do even better – there are quite a few online fragrance outlets offering 100% authentic designer perfume and cologne and fragrance gift sets at discounts of up to 70% – sometimes even more. Always comparison shop your fragrance of choice at several different places - and always expect to find a wide variation in prices between sites. It’s well worth a few extra clicks - prices can vary by more than $25 for a single, identical item. If you’re shopping for more than one fragrance, don’t be at all surprised if a site that was the most expensive for one product offered the best price by far for the other.
Fragrance gift sets make a great gift for any occasion – holidays, birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day. Pick one of her all time favorite fragrances and go to town. And if the pre-packaged gift sets don’t seem quite bountiful enough – add a few more products and create your own gift box.
A do it yourself fragrance gift set is an easy gifting option and an excellent choice for last minute shoppers. Overnight delivery is generally available. A quick trip to your corner Walgreens or CVS for a decorative gift bag, coordinating tissue and the perfect card and you’ve created a thoughtful and luxurious gift with no stress at all.

Lynne’s an Angel girl. It’s her signature scent. She was shopping for a 3.4 ounce EDP refill of Angel by Theirry Mugler and I volunteered to do the legwork for her. Heartened by the success of my recent mission for Terre d’Hermes (click here to read the post and find out where I saved a bundle!) – I knew I’d find her a great deal. I found prices ranging up to $125 with the best overall deal at Perfume Country. They’ve got a nice selection of Angel and other Thierry Mugler fragrances and skincare products at discounts of up to about 50%, depending on the product. The 3.4 ounce refill was $111.29. I needed to replenish my supply and am happy to report two things. First and foremost, like everyone else, I love being right. This purchase certainly confirmed my theory that it’s imperative to check prices at multiple sources each time you buy. Inventories and prices change quite quickly when it comes to fragrances and cosmetics. I did not find the best price today at the same place I ordered from last time. Far from it. I was also pleased and thrilled to discover that the price for Terre d’Hermes has gotten quite a bit lower. Last time the best price I found was $72.19 and I paid $64.98 after a 10% coupon. Today I found prices ranging up to $63.99. Hands down the best deal was from Perfume Worldwide where the 3.3 ounce EDT was selling for only $52! And I saved another 12% with the coupon code below. I also saved a bundle on some Decleor skincare products and am a very happy camper. They’ve got a nice selection of Chanel lipsticks too. Thought you’d want to know.
FYI – their checkout screen requires that you enter your credit card before the coupon code will recalculate your total. Don’t worry. You’ll be notified that the coupon has been applied before your order is fully processed. I know this because I entered the code incorrectly and had to re-enter my card information.

Like many women, I don’t try a new fragrance very often. I have my few favorites and that’s what I wear. Until recently. Then I caught a whiff of Terre, a new unisex/men’s fragrance from Hermes. I was instantly in love with the slightly spicy and musky yet still fresh, clean and subtle scent. Wow! It’s my idea of the perfect fall perfume. Like most Hermes fragrances and just about everything that they make or sell, Terre is expensive. The 3.3 ounce EDT spray retails for about $120, plus sales tax were I to buy it at Neiman’s or another bricks and mortar store. I knew I could do way better online, but even I impressed myself this time.
Today the best price on the 3.3 ounce Terre d’Hermes EDT was at FragranceNet.com, where it was selling for $72.19, about 40% off retail. Coupon code LINK06 (valid through December 1) reduced that price another 10% and shipping was free, bringing the total to $64.98. That’s just under half of the $130.50 (including sales tax) that I would have paid had I gone the bricks and mortar route.
