Rock Solid

Love these agate coasters!  Practical and beautiful.  Made from Brazilian agate, which was once believed to have magical and protective properties.  Perfect for coasters, which magically protect the furniture and provide a punch of color.  I found this set of four agate coasters for $50 at Uncommon Goods, one of the web’s leading sources for the affordable and unusual. They’ve got a nice selection of unique tabletop items and other artsy coasters, too.

Coaster Fan

In general I am a big fan of consumable gifts like food or wine or living gifts like plants or flowers.  But some gift giving occasions call for something with a bit more staying power. I tend to send my clients gifts that are a bit more permanent, hoping that the item will continue to remind them of me and keep me in mind for future consulting projects.  The same is often true of thank you gifts and hostess gifts; I want a gift that will stick around and remind the recipient of me and my gratitude.  This approach only works if the gift is something lovely and practical enough that the recipient won’t re-gift me right out of their home or office.  Coasters are a great option.  Everyone needs them.  Most people don’t have enough or don’t have nice coasters.  I’ve both given and received coasters on numerous occasions and only have positive feedback to report.

These lacquered mango wood coasters are just under $50 for the set of 6 and decorative container.  They’ve got the Asian look that is so popular right now yet are not at all kitschy.  I found them at Novica.com , the online gallery from National Georgraphic, where they have a nice selection of coasters starting at under $30 and going up to about $60 per set.
