We also had a Petrossian over at Bloomies for quite a long time – but it’s now a shadow of it’s former self. I’ve gone virtual with my caviar shopping over the last couple of years. And believe it or not, caviar is actually an excellent thing to shop for on-line. Especially with the fabulous choices available – like an incredible range of Russian, Iranian, American, & Specialty Caviar from GourmetFoodStore.com

Expect to find a larger selection of products from a wider array of places than you’d typically find at any single bricks and mortar caviar boutique. And prices that are at worst competitive and at best and often represent significant savings. I personally suspect that they do a much larger volume than any of my now defunct neighborhood options, because the freshness is pretty incredible.

Flying Fish Eggs http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2006/11/28/flying-fish-eggs/ http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2006/11/28/flying-fish-eggs/#comments Tue, 28 Nov 2006 00:24:33 +0000 Deb Savvy http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2006/11/28/flying-fish-eggs/ Paula had been searching for salmon roe for weeks.  She wanted to serve this AMAZING appetizer she used to make back in the day.  It’s basically a molded chopped egg and onion salad with tons of salmon roe poured on top like lava oozing from a volcano.  Does it sound good?  It’s incredible!  Best yet, it’s really easy to make and serve.  We just eat it on crackers.  Everyone gobbles it up.

BUY CAVIAR AT DEAN AND DELUCA

Paula made her usual rounds to the high end grocers and specialty stores in Chicago, but was not able to find what she needed.  Like all the rest of us savvy sisters, she immediately made herself a cup of coffee and took a little surf.  Paula found the best price and delivery for salmon roe (certified Kosher) and other types of caviar at Dean and Deluca.  She also found some surprising differences in price from site to site and suggests comparison shopping at several sites before ordering or reordering.

We’re here every day sharing our best shopping secrets with you.  Visit us often at savvyshoppingblog.com.

The Gift of Gourmet Luxury http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2006/11/12/the-gift-of-gourmet-luxury/ http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2006/11/12/the-gift-of-gourmet-luxury/#comments Sun, 12 Nov 2006 18:14:46 +0000 Deb Savvy http://savvyshoppingblog.com/blog2/2006/11/12/the-gift-of-gourmet-luxury/ Russian Caviar and Gourmet Foods

Do you ever wonder what to buy for someone who has absolutely everything?  Do you need to send a gift to someone you don’t know well enough to have any idea about their personal tastes?  I love giving consumable gifts.  Something super luxe, like Russian caviar, exotic cheeses or foie gras.  Something that people would not ordinarily buy for themselves.  It’s the perfect way to indulge someone.  After all, isn’t that what gifting is all about?  And you don’t add to the clutter in their house.
